Structure of SIPAZ

International Team

SIPAZ develops its work through an international team based in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, from which we travel to the main areas of conflict in the state. Since 2005, our team has expanded its work to the states of Oaxaca and Guerrero, with frequent visits to those states, though without permanent offices there. Marina Pagés (France) has been the team’s Coordinator since 2001.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of SIPAZ is our decision-making, planning, and international outreach body, made up of representatives of several of the organizations that form the SIPAZ coalition as well as people with experience in Mexico and in the fields of peace building, nonviolence, and human rights. They meet with the permanent team in Chiapas once a year, in order to lend continuity to the context and work, as well as to adapt the strategic approach of the project to new circumstances.

International Coalition

Since its creation, the SIPAZ program in Chiapas has been supported by the same international coalition that founded it. The coalition is made up of organizations from the Americas and Europe with expertise in the fields of peace building, human rights, and conflict transformation. To date, the coalition has had a fundamentally deterrent function in the scope of the defense of human rights in Mexico. We maintain direct contact and frequent exchanges with several member organizations. From a few, we receive contributions and assistance in the creation of and participation in our executive structure. From others, the association is more straitforward: financial donations, distribution of our materials, or answers to our urgent calls to action. Still others send frequent delegations to Chiapas. Our work is enriched by our interaction with the diverse and heterogeneous members of our coalition, which without a doubt allows us to confront effectively the present challenges.
